5 New Restaurants in Austin, Texas – A Pictorial Roundup (May 25th, 2012)

It’s a great time to live in Austin for foodies. It seems that every few days, a new restaurant is opening up somewhere in the city.  A couple of years ago it was easy to know about all of the restaurant openings around town, but now it’s almost impossible to keep up.

Now that Austin has become the place to move to for many (including entrepreneurs and restaurateurs) it feels like the city has hit a tipping point where the food scene is changing in profound ways as new flavors and cuisines are introduced.

Whether at a new sit down restaurant or trailer or food truck, Austinites have more food options than ever.

Texas Hill Country Adventure in Dripping Springs, Fredericksburg, and Driftwood + One Sweet Ride – Food Photo Friday

I’ve you haven’t made a trip out to the Texas Hill Country, you should definitely go. Just an hour or so outside of Austin we have a wealth of natural beauty and cool small towns full of great restaurants, wineries, and B&Bs. I try to make it out to the Hill Country at least once a year to visit natural wonders like Enchanted Rock or Hamilton Pool and to enjoy some Texas wine and brews.

So, when Chevy Texan offered me the chance to drive a new Chevy Camaro out to the Hill Country as part of their Driving the Heartland campaign, I jumped on the opportunity (it’s hard to say no to a cool ride out to a fun place). This Food Photo Friday post highlights some of the best and tastiest parts of the trip which covered several cities and food related locations.

Austin Cupcake Smackdown 2.0 Jaffa Cake Eating Contest + How to Break a World Record

How much food can you cram into your face in 60 seconds? That was the question 14 brave souls tried to answer at Cupcake Smackdown 2.0 during an attempt to break a World Record for eating the most Jaffa Cakes in a minute.

The contestants came in confident, as the bar seemed to be set pretty low at only 8 jaffa cakes in the allotted time. However, soon after the contest began, reality set in and everyone knew that this would be a tough record to beat.

Food Photo Friday – Community Table at the Hyatt SWB – Gratuitous Food Closeups

SWB_Hyatt_Austin

A few days ago, Peter was invited to the Community Table at the Southwest Bistro (SWB) in the Austin Hyatt for a tasting, which was perfect for this installment of Food Photo Friday because the food was beautiful!

The Bistro, despite turning out quality local food, might get overlooked because of the lack of visibility from the street level. So, keeping true to our mission statement, this post will hopefully help you discover tasty food, one delicious bite at a time by highlighting some of the dishes at the Southwest Bistro!

Food Photo Friday – Austin Trailer Time

Mighty Cone Austin, Texas

Food Photo Friday is back, and this week’s installment is all about Austin Food Trailers and Food Trucks. Everyone knows that Food Trailers are all the rage in Austin now, and I’d wager that if you are downtown or on South Congress, you’re probably less than 3 blocks away from a food trailer or 5.

Over the months the TastingBuds have visited many of these hidden gems around town, and we’d like to share some of the photos we’ve taken along the way:

Food Photo Friday – Red Rules

Crawfish at the 2010 SXSouthLamar Crawfish Boil

Everyone likes pretty pictures, and everyone knows that a picture speaks a thousand words. When out enjoying the Austin food scene, we’re often taking cool photos of food that don’t necessarily justify an entire blog post… until now. We’re starting a new series called Food Photo Friday, where we can share lots of mini food adventures that we’ve been having and just let the pictures do most of the talking.
